The Air Mattress of the Future is Here!

An air mattress is no longer just a cheap blow-up bed for camping, but a luxurious and comfortable bed that can compete with the old box spring or foam mattress beds for quality and comfort. Air mattresses can be adjusted to your ideal firmness or softness, unlike beds of old.

According to the dictionary an air mattress is an inflatable mattress, usually made of some type of plastic material. After reading this definition it doesn't make you want to rush out and purchase one. After all, who wants to sleep on a cold piece of plastic? But the air mattresses of today are so much more than a large rectangular plastic balloon. They even offers options not available to box spring or foam mattress owners.

A cheap air mattress can be deflated and rolled up and is ideal for camping trips. They can also be very handy to have around the house as a temporary place to sleep for extended family and guests. But when it comes to real luxury and real comfort the newer air mattresses of today have no peers.

Deluxe air bed mattresses are made for the home and are designed with one thing in mind, comfort. Sure, they may be made of plastic, but that cold plastic is covered with soft and luxurious fabrics that can help you realize the most relaxing night's sleep in a very long time. Plus, they come in all regular sizes including twin, full, queen and king and will typically use the standard size sheets. No need to search high and low for bed sheets in hard-to-find sizes.

The more expensive ones have high quality pumps that come attached, allowing for easy and quick inflation or deflation. Pump them up by pushing a button and then deflate them by pushing another button. Adjust the firmness or softness with one finger. It couldn't get any easier unless you had someone else push the button for you. And deflating them entirely can be done in a matter of seconds. It should be noted that not all brands and models have pumps. If you are strapped for cash you can certainly find a cheap one that must be inflated manually. These cheap brands can save you some money and give you more exercise than you want, both at the same time.

A top-of-the-line air mattress will contain additional features for comfort, luxury and ease-of-use. Some include separate hand-held firmness controls for each side of the bed. If one person likes it firm and the other prefers soft, both can be satisfied with separate firmness controls.

By simply pushing a button one sleeper can adjust their side of the air mattress to any level of desired firmness, from extra firm to soothingly soft, all without affecting the other sleeper's comfort.

One of the more popular air bed mattress manufacturers is Select Comfort. They have Sleep Number Beds that use uniquely designed air chambers to provide a gentle cushion of support which can be easily adjusted to the sleeper's preference for comfort and firmness. In addition, the Sleep Number bed allows couples to individually adjust their own side to the precise comfort level that they prefer.

If you enjoy having a pillow top on your mattress you will be happy to know that you can fit your deluxe air mattress with the same types of pillow tops, sheets, blankets, pillows and comforters that you have grown to love on your spring or foam bed.

The air mattress has all of the positive attributes that make sleeping relaxing and comfortable. But the air mattress has additional comfort features that cannot be found on other types of beds. If you are looking for luxury there is no need to look any further, the air mattress beds of today have everything necessary to ensure a good night's sleep. Sleeping is something that you will start to enjoy again.

Adjustable Bed Options

So you are now a believer to the benefits of using an adjustable bed. You know that a good and comfortable sleep is necessary if you need to recharge to prepare for the next day's chores. More importantly, you know that sleep would provide your cells the chance to repair the damages to the tissues incurred during the course of the day. Choosing the right adjustable bed, however, could be a daunting experience more so if you do not know what options should be considered to choose one that would best suit your needs.
No adjustable bed could be considered the best since the best adjustable bed is subjective. What could be the best for you may not be the best for other people. Hence, the specific need of the user must be considered in choosing. Below are some options that could assist you in selecting the right adjustable bed.

Hi/Lo Option. Also known as the height adjustment, this allows the mattress to be raised or lowered. The height of the mattress can be adjusted to provide the user ease in getting in and out of bed. Transferring to and from a wheel chair would be easier thus minimizing the risk of injuries.

Head Elevation Option. Raising the head of the bed would provide support to the head, neck, back and lower back. Full back support makes for a comfortable sitting position. Pillow propping will no longer be necessary if you want to watch TV, read a book or finish reports in your lap top computer.

Breathing difficulties due to asthma and due to obesity will be alleviated if the back and head is elevated. The lungs will be allowed to function more easily and naturally as the pressure is decreased.

Leg Elevation Option. This option will be most helpful to users with blood circulation problems. The slight elevation of the legs would allow the blood to flow and circulate freely so that the user will awake fully refreshed and without numbed arms and legs. Even healthy people would sometimes need to rest and elevate aching legs and feet especially after a workout or a strenuous exercise. The automatic leg elevation feature that an adjustable bed provides can be a real relief.

To a normally healthy person, using an adjustable bed means a more comfortable and perfect sleep. However, to an elderly or to a mobility impaired individual, an adjustable bed is the best support to nursing care.

With these options in mind, you will be able to make a more informed decision on your next adjustable bed purchase.

Do You Have Bed Bug Infestation And Not Know It?

bed bugs

For most individuals they never consider that when they return home from vacation they may be bringing something more than just souvenirs and fond memories. Bed bugs can easily make their way from one locale to another just by grabbing onto a persons clothing.

Most people have absolutely no idea what a bed bug is and how to identify when you have a problem with them. Bed bugs are difficult to see with the naked eye because they are so small. In fact, an adult bed bug is no more than about a quarter of an inch in length.

Bed bugs survive by eating off of warm blooded animals. That is why they so enjoy nestling into the warmth of bed sheets. Many people do not even realize that they have a problem with these small critters at first. It can take months of bites before they are aware that they are being eaten by these bugs each night.

One of the main reasons that it can take people some time to realize that they have a bed bug problem is that the bugs do not show themselves during daylight hours. They hide under floor boards or behind furniture until the lights go out. Once the individual is fast asleep the bugs make their way close to the sleeper and start to feed.

The bites of bed bugs closely resemble the bites that you might expect to get from something like a mosquito. A small, reddish bump may appear on the skin and in some cases it can produce a slight itching reaction as well.

If you do suspect that you have bed bugs you will need to put on your detective cap. There are several places to check to see if you do have this problem. One is right in your bed. Remove the blankets and thoroughly check the sheets. Look in any creases and under the pillows. While you are searching keep in mind that you may find evidence of the bed bugs but not the actual bugs. Bed bugs leave waste material that is either a dark brown or reddish color.

Getting rid of bed bugs can prove to be a challenge. The reason is that the bugs tend to lay eggs in discreet places. The first step you need to take is to throw out all bedding and consider replacing your mattress. After you have done this you need to thoroughly clean the room. Remove any clutter and vacuum all exposed areas. You should also remove any desk or dresser drawers and clean beneath and behind them.

Dealing with bed bugs can be difficult but it is certainly not impossible. Once you discover that you are sharing your home with these unwanted visitors take the necessary steps to rid yourself of them forever.

How to choose your bed

What size of bed do you require? You can buy single, double and king size.

• We recommend that you invest in a good mattress as this is very important for comfort and a good night’s sleep.

• It’s worth considering buying a slightly bigger bed to give yourself room to get comfortable in your sleep; this is especially important if you are sharing a bed.

• You might be more comfortable in a king size bed rather than a double bed.

• Do you require a soft bed or a firm bed? This will depend on your own personal preference.

Types of Bed

Divans are made up of a base unit and a mattress which are bought together for one price and work together to provide superb comfort and support. They are modern in appearance and very comfortable. Some divans have drawers in the base unit which are ideal for storing bedding, clothing or anything that needs to be kept tidy. Divan base units fold in half to make it easy to get them through doorways or upstairs.

Bedsteads are more traditional and more decorative but you’ll need to buy your mattress separately. We sell both wooden and metal bedsteads and some which are a combination of the two. The slats which go across the bedstead horizontally provide support but if you’re looking for more of a spring go for a ‘Sprung Slat’ base.

Mattresses & Headboards

• Mattresses are sprung and provide the comfort and support you need for a good night’s rest. Normally they have a quilted damask covering and some are complete with handles so you can move and turn them easily.

• Orthopedic mattresses may be more comfortable for people with back problems.

• Hypo-allergenic mattresses have a filling that may be less likely to trigger allergies.

• Memory foam topped mattresses are great for comfort as the special topper moulds to the shape of your body.

• Hand Tufted mattresses are constructed in such a way that ‘roll together’ is prevented or at least reduced.

• The headboard gives a bed that finishing touch and ads to the decorative effect in your room.

Caring for Your Bed

The better you look after your bed the longer it will last and it’s really the mattress that you should be thinking about here.

• The normal lifespan of a mattress is about 8 - 10 years. In this time even a quality mattress may deteriorate by up to 75% therefore it will be much less comfy.

• When your mattress gets old it becomes less healthy as it will have collected skin particles and dust mites throughout its lifetime – this is why you need to change it.

• Mattresses should be turned regularly to ensure that they wear evenly and that the shape of your body does not distort them.

• If you have a divan we recommend that you replace the mattress and the base unit at the same time as they work together to give you support. Just replacing the mattress may reduce the lifespan of the mattress and the base.
